About

Bert is a commercial and editorial photographer with an entrepreneurial spirit.

He specializes in portraiture (actors, musicians, athletes, pilots), editorial and advertising work, menswear, and still life photography (particularly eyewear and jewelry).

Bert was Born in Borken, Germany, where a down-to-earth and friendly spirit is part of the culture. Raised in a family-run restaurant and hotel, he learned hospitality early on—traits that still define him today.

His fascination with the visual world started early, sparked by a camera gifted to him by his father—he knew right away that this was what he wanted to pursue.

Apprenticing in his small village wasn’t enough, so Bert set out for Hamburg, then New York City, with a brief stop in LA. In New York, he photographed well-known musicians, actors, and politicians, working on commercial assignments that took him across the U.S. and beyond. NYC taught him to work quickly, with precision and empathy, forging immediate connections with his subjects.

He also documented the events of 9/11—an experience that changed his life and deeply shaped his perspective. After being diagnosed with leukemia, Bert returned to Germany, settling in Berlin. There, he quickly became involved in a book project to raise awareness about the rare form of blood cancer.

Not long after, he launched 4SEE, an independent print magazine focused on global eyewear trends and fashion. With a circulation of 19,000, the magazine ran for five years until the Covid-19 pandemic brought it a halt. During its run, it brought him into close collaboration with leading international eyewear brands. Through this venture that Bert honed his skills in creative direction—overseeing full editorial productions not only in Berlin, but also in Tokyo, Paris, and New York.

Bert’s entrepreneurial journey continued in 2017 when he founded raw studios., a premier production studio in Berlin. The space reflects his years of experience and vision, drawing in top clients and inspiring creatives from around the world.

When he’s not working, you’ll likely find him on his boat—sailing or elbows-deep in repairs.
